When it comes to Adhesive Vinyl, Orafol manufactures some of the most popular lines for indoor and outdoor use - Oracal 651 and Oracal 631. When adhesive vinyl is used with a transfer tape, precision placement of cut vinyl is easy to achieve.
ORACAL 651 ADHESIVE VINYL
Calendered Oracal 651 Vinyl is one of the most versatile and popular adhesive vinyls on the market. Rated for 5-8 years outdoors, it is a permanent solvent-based adhesive vinyl. It is perfect for many outdoor uses that need to withstand weather, including boats, doors, mailboxes, or even indoor uses such as plates, mugs, and keychains. The solvent-based permanent adhesive on Oracal 651 gives a much more permanent stick than a water-based adhesive like on the Oracal 631. Available in 60 colors, in rolls up to 60”, and in both gloss and matte finish, it’s hard to go wrong with Oracal 651 for your outdoor project.
ORACAL 631 ADHESIVE VINYL
Indoor, wall-safe calendered Oracal 631 Vinyl is easier to remove than 651, and is also one of the least expensive vinyl films in production. This makes it a great choice for temporary or short-term projects where you may want to reuse the backing or substrate. While rated for 3 years indoors, our experience is that it will last considerably longer indoors in a gentle environment. The water-based, removable adhesive makes it relatively easy to remove and won’t damage most surfaces or leave residue. Available in over 60 colors in a matte finish, in rolls up to 48”, Oracal 631 is a great choice for most indoor applications, and some outdoor as well.
You may be able to get by without transfer tape for a very small job, but you’ll definitely want to use it for anything bigger. Transfer tape, or application tape, lets you easily separate cut vinyl from the backing while keeping everything in perfect alignment, allowing you to transfer the design to the finished project. Available up to 60” wide, transfer tape makes sure your vinyl jobs have the precision they deserve.
